On September 30, 2025, the agency issued a press release titled, “Justice Department Launches Title IV and Title VI Investigation into University of Nevada Las Vegas.” Publicly funded universities are prohibited from discriminating based on race, religion, or national origin.

On September 16, 2025, the agency issued a press release titled, “Justice Department Sues Rhode Island Department of Education and Providence Public School District for Racial Discrimination Against Teachers.” The complaint is that “New PPSD teachers who identify as “teachers of color” can receive up to $25,000 in student loan forgiveness while only white teachers are excluded from the Program.”

On August 29, 2025, the agency issued a press release titled, “Justice Department Files Motion for Summary Judgement in Challenge to New York’s ‘Climate Change Superfund Act,’” which “imposes $75 billion in liability on foreign and domestic energy companies for their alleged past contributions to climate change.”

On August 12, 2025, the agency issued a press release titled, “Justice Department Finds George Washington University Deliberately Indifferent to Antisemitic Discrimination.” Title VI “prohibits discrimination, harassment, and abuse based on race or national origin, by recipients of federal financial assistance.”

On July 30, 2025, the agency issued a press release titled, “Justice Department Release Guidance for Recipients of Federal Funding Regarding Unlawful Discrimination.” 

On July 29, 2025, the agency issued a press release titled, “Justice Department Finds the University of California – Los Angeles in Violation of Federal Civil Rights Law.” “The Civil Rights Division enforces federal civil rights laws that protect students from discrimination based on religion, national origin, and other protected characteristics. This includes Title VI, which prohibits such discrimination by recipients of federal financial assistance.”

On July 21, 2025, the agency issued a press release titled, “Justice Department Launches Second Investigation into Geroge Mason University.” “Public educational institutions are contractually obligated to follow our nation’s federal civil rights laws when receiving federal funds,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.

On July 7, 2025, the agency issued a press release titled, “Stantec Inc. Agrees to Pay $4M to Resolve Allegations That It Violated the False Claims Act by Submitting False Certifications to the EPA in Grant Applications.”

On February 5, 2025 the DOJ issued a memorandum titled, “Sanctuary Jurisdiction Directives” which affects federal funding to state and local jurisdictions.  

On February 5, 2025 the DOJ issued a memorandum  titled “Ending Illegal DEI and DEIA Discrimination and Preferences” which impacts federal funding to educational institutions.
